Our bike tour of significant locations in the Founders District was a great success. It was a lovely, sunny day and 70 to 80 people turned up to share our tour and get to know the sights and history of the Founders District. Many said let's do this again so we are now talking about a downtown tour of environmentally interesting sites next fall.
Transition Tulsa and the Founder's District, which consists of Brady Heights, Country Club Gardens, Crosbie Heights, and Owen Park (these neighborhoods are all just north of downtown), are organizing a bike and car tour to be held this fall. The tour will focus on points of historical and visual interest in the Founder's District; several presentations by residents will be included on the tour.
Saturday was a great success! It was an old-fashioned and/or new-fangled barn raising, except instead of raising a barn friends and neighbors helped us build swales to capture rain water for our garden ( with the expert guidance of James and Sam of Green Country Permaculture). After an introduction and instructions about the goal of the morning, 15 or so men, women, and children worked hard and finished the project in record time. Then everyone came in the house for lunch and visiting. A great time was had by all! (And the Bosts will be eternally grateful.)
Diana Bost Last Saturday evening we met at the home of Susan Singh for a movie night and potluck dinner, in celebration of our official status as a Transition group. We watched the films The Power of Community and The Economics of Happiness, and shared a meal of a wonderful array of homemade dishes. Engaging discussion and conversation ended the evening. Watch for another movie night soon!
We just got word this week that we are an official Transition initiative! We invite all in the Tulsa area to get involved in Transition Tulsa. Join our mailing list and stay tuned for more about our activities and meetings.
